Nintendo says Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream won't support the Switch 2's new resolution boost feature because the game runs in 'higher resolution' 1080p 'regardless of whether Handheld Mode Boost is enabled or disabled'

- Handheld Mode Boost can be tested in the demo, but it won't be available at launch
Nintendo has confirmed that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream won't support the Nintendo Switch 2's new resolution boost feature.
Last month, the Switch 2 received a huge hardware update that introduced Handheld Mode Boost, a highly requested feature from users that boosts original Nintendo Switch software.
The update essentially runs the Switch game with its docked 1080p graphics preset, rather than its 720p one, giving players the option to play these games in higher resolution on the Switch 2.
Now, in a FAQ post, Nintendo has addressed whether Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is compatible with Handheld Mode Boost on Nintendo Switch 2, its first new game release since the feature was implemented.
"When playing Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream in handheld mode on the Nintendo Switch 2, you can play at a higher resolution (1080p) than using handheld mode on Nintendo Switch, regardless of whether Handheld Mode Boost is enabled or disabled," Nintendo said.
"For that reason, this game does not support Handheld Mode Boost."
The company explained that players can enable the mode while playing the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Welcome Version demo, which is available now, "but you will not be able to use the touch screen."
"We recommend playing the demo version with Handheld Mode Boost disabled, as you will still be able to play at the higher resolution and use the touch screen," Nintendo added. "After the next system update, Handheld Mode Boost will no longer be applied to the demo version."
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launches on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on April 16, 2026.
It doesn't seem like the game is getting a separate, upgraded version for Switch 2 at the moment or any particular enhancements, but it is compatible with the latest console.
